Three Ways Austinites are Doing Laundry Faster

Posted on 6/20/2024 by Oli

There's not many people out there who really enjoy doing their laundry, it's a chore that can quickly suck up your free time on the evenings and weekends. But when the heat hits the hundreds, many people in Austin go through at least two sets of clothes a day, and that adds up to a lot of washing, drying, hanging, ironing, and folding.

While you might not be able to get rid of laundry completely, there's a few things some locals are doing to at least save a time on their weekly chore, and we highlighted three of the best right here!

1) Run the Quick Wash

Most people run their washing on a full cycle, which can be needed for heavily soiled clothes. But if it's an outer garment, or something you only wore for a few hours, you can probably run it on a quick wash. Not only is this much faster, but it saves on energy and water too. This is by far the easiest way to get through your laundry faster.

2) Outsource the Load

It's often viewed as expensive, but using a drop-off wash and fold service, or even better a laundry delivery service, is actually pretty affordable way to do your laundry (especially if you don't have an in-unit washer and dryer). For example NoScrubs is a local Austin laundry delivery service that will pick up your laundry, wash it, fold it, and get it back to your door in as little as 2 hours, making it a super convenient way to free up your personal time.

3) If You Can't Beat the Heat, You Might as Well Use It

You might get pretty sick of the heat, but when it comes to drying clothes, the Texas heat is perfect for drying your clothes quickly. While it might not be faster than a dryer, if you hang your clothes outside you can come back and get them when you're ready, and unlike a dryer, they'll be wrinkle free if you get to it too late.

Hanging your wet clothes outside means you can spend your time doing things you want to, without having to hang around the house, or worry about getting back in time to get your clothes out before the wrinkles set in. As a bonus, the average dryer load costs someone in Austin about $2.50 a cycle, not much but it adds up quickly!

Bonus

Most laundry challenges come from lack of organization, I'm as guilty of that as anyone. But getting organized really can help, sorting your laundry in to fast loads and really dirty loads is a good starting point, and if you time your dryer right you can minimize ironing time.

There's no easy way to get organized, but spending a little extra time up front can save you a whole lot of time a few hours later.
